iOS 4.2 Soon

According to numerous sources, Apple will be releasing iTunes 10.1 on Wednesday, the 10th and iOS 4.2 on Friday, the 12th. Apparently, 4.2 was delayed due to a problem with displaying Japanese characters correctly, but this issue has since been fixed.

This update will have many improvements and fixes, including support for multitasking (and other 4.x features) on the iPad, wireless printing, AirPlay, and a fix for the lock-screen bug that allows anyone to bypass the phone’s passcode, as well as the DST bug that caused quite a few people to sleep in.

This version is also said to remedy the slowdown that is currently plaguing iPhone 3G users, but this has yet to be officially confirmed.

Also, remember to backup your SHSH blobs, since a jailbreak for 4.2 will probably be released soon.

New iPhone OS to fix iPhone 3g lag.

One of the major complaints of iOS 4.0 was the massive slowdown it caused on older devices. The issue was (and still is) quite bad, and even inspired a popular parody video mocking Apple. When asked about the problem, Jobs sent an email claiming that a software update was “coming soon”, but iOS 4.1 came and went, and users didn’t see much improvement. Now, beta testers are claiming that the next iteration of iOS (which should be released very soon) actually improves the iPhone 3G’s speed significantly.

If any Touch Fans have had a chance to try out the latest release of 4.2—which is the final version—let us know how it performs on aging hardware in the comments.

New iPad to have FaceTime Camera?

Appleinsider claims that Apple may already be in "advanced testing stages" of a new FaceTime capable iPads.
A version of the tablet device with a built-in video camera and support for the new FaceTime video conferencing standard has already progressed to the advanced testing stages, according to a person with proven knowledge of Apple's future product plans.
The followup iPad is said to be due no later than 1st quarter of next year with some suggestion we could see them sooner. The report corresponds to recent claims that the iPad's next-gen firmware contains FaceTime debugging software, similar to that which was leaked prior to the iPhone 4 launch.

Apple released the first (and also current) iPad in April 2010.

iTunes 10

Alongside new iPod models, Apple today introduced a new version of iTunes, dubbed iTunes 10. The new version of the media management application features a streamlined interface and a new networking feature called Ping, along with a new, more modern icon.

Ping is a social network for music that will help users discover new music, allowing users to follow favorite artists and friends. Ping will also create a custom chart showing music selections based on those followed. Users can choose to allow others to follow them automatically or by approval. There are over 160 million iTunes users, all of whom will be able to sign up for the new Ping service immediately.

Apple today introduced iTunes 10 with Ping, a new music-oriented social network for following your favorite artists and friends to discover what music they're talking about, listening to and downloading. iTunes Ping lets you post your thoughts and opinions, your favorite albums and songs, the music you've downloaded from iTunes, plus view concert listings and tell your friends which concerts you plan to attend. iTunes 10 also features HD TV show rentals for just 99 cents an episode and AirPlay wireless music playback.
In a demonstration, Jobs showed how users can post videos and photos to the service, as well as search concert information and tag concerts attended. Ping will be included in the iTunes app on the iPhone and iPod touch.
